Two Saved, One Suffering Heart Attack

Two mariners, one experiencing possible heart attack symptoms, were rescued from a vessel that was disabled and adrift near the Chetco River jetty in Brookings, Friday evening.

A Coast Guard emergency medical technician aboard a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat from Station Chetco River, located in Brookings, climbed aboard a 26-foot disabled boat to medically assist the ill mariner while the remaining boatcrew towed the disabled vessel safely to the station where he was transferred to emergency medical service personnel.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Bend received a request for assistance for a disabled vessel drifting toward rocks with two people aboard at approximately 4 p.m.

The weather at the time of the rescue was reported to be cloudy with overcast skies, 10 mph winds and 4-6 foot swells.
