Two Adults Rescued, 6-year-old trapped under overturned hull.

A Coast Guard boat crew responded Thursday when a 21-foot pleasure craft capsized near the south jetty of Umpqua River with three people on board, including a 6-year-old boy who was reportedly unconscious.

A 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Station Umpqua River worked with a local rescue diver to recover all three passengers from the water and administered CPR to the boy until they transferred him to emergency medical services personnel waiting with an ambulance at the station.

The two men, who were reportedly the boy’s father and grandfather, did not report any injuries.
A watchstander at Station Umpqua River received a report around 3 p.m. of a disabled boat near the south jetty that was unable to anchor. The vessel reportedly ran onto the jetty and capsized as the Coast Guard boat crew launched to respond.

The crew was able to pull the two men from the water, but the child was reportedly stuck under the hull of the overturned vessel. A rescue diver from Bandon Fire Dive Team arrived within approximately 30 minutes and was able to dive under the boat to recover the boy.
