Tugboat Fire Breaks Out

Fire broke out in the engine room of a tugboat Late Monday afternoon, Oct 10, on the shores of Dickinson Bayou in San Leon, TX. Two volunteer firefighters escaped serious injury when the fire flashed over them while battling the blaze.

According to Assistant Fire Chief Scott Lyons, The San Leon Volunteer Fire Department was called to the fire at the Robinson Docks on 27th Street at about 5:30 p.m.

The Daily News reports:
The two firefighters went down into the engine room when the fire flashed over them. Their gear was severely burned, but they were unharmed, Lyons said.

The flames quickly shot up to the deck of the boat, so Lyons pulled his crews back and called in backup.

He said because there were no fire hydrants in the dock area, fire crews needed a pumper truck from Dickinson to pull water from Dickinson Bayou to help battle the confined-space fire.

Fire crews had the blaze extinguished about 6:30 p.m.
