104-foot fish tender NAKNEK SPIRIT ran aground about six miles east of Whittier, Alaska, which is in Prince William Sound.
A ruptured diesel tank leaked about 500 of the 2,000 gallons of diesel fuel aboard, most of which dispersed at sea with no visible damage to the shore. The remaining 1,500 gallons were transferred from the ruptured tank.
No injuries were reported, and the crew freed NAKNEK SPIRIT on the next high tide and proceeded under her own power to Whittier for repairs.
The Coast Guard will be investigating the incident.
