Lieveling Grounded, owner rescued

A helicopter crew rescued a mariner from his grounded sailing vessel Lieveling 209 miles north of Kodiak, Alaska, Monday.

Watchstanders from Coast Guard Sector Anchorage received a radio call for assistance from the mariner reporting he was drifting toward the rocks and donning his survival suit. The watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast, diverted the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Mustang, and requested an MH-60 helicopter crew and HC-130 airplane crew from Air Station Kodiak for assistance.

The aircrew arrived on scene and sighted the Leiveling hard aground with the mariner ashore. They landed on the beach nearby to embark the mariner and transport him to Seward
