Kayakers rescued from high winds

Two kayakers were assisted to safety after high winds stranded them near Sucia Island, Saturday afternoon.
The kayakers were picked up by the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Swordfish and safely transported to Orcas Island.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound received a cell phone call from the kayakers at about 3:40 p.m. requesting assistance because they felt unsafe in attempting to make the transit back to Orcas Island. A Canadian Coast Guard Motor Life Boat crew also responded and arrived on scene at the same time as the Swordfish’s crew.
